The virtual pet craze began in Japan and quickly swept to the United States in the late 1990s. While virtual pets were fun for a week or two, carrying around the little toy quickly became an annoying chore. Whether you had a Tomagotchi, Giga Pet, Nano Baby, or something else, you eventually learned that it feels a lot better to just let the pet die and get on with your life.
